When people begin to think about remodeling, ideas will surface about tearing out walls, windows, doorways and anything having to do with major work. The idea of remodeling always tends to focus on larger projects. What about the little projects? Considering simple easy remodeling ideas can lead to as much home enjoyment at a much lesser cost.

Furnishings

One of the easiest, and more fun remodeling ideas, is to go find new old furniture to fit into your home. Many times what you have currently is beginning to look boring or past it’s prime. Using different furnishings as a remodeling idea can completely change the way any room looks. Some places to look:
Garage sales and flea markets
Used furniture stores, and sometimes small antique shops
Salvation Army

Furnace and Plumbing

One of the best basic and simple remodeling ideas that are often overlooked are updating the plumbing and the furnace.
Furnace – with all of the modern furnaces being energy efficient today, having a furnace that’s even ten years old will cost you more in heating bills over the next five years than updating to a new furnace now.
Plumbing – old plumbing can cause a host of issues from rust to problems in the water. This can also cause the hot water heater to work harder as well. Maintaining pressure in older plumbing is also a problem. Most pipes can be easily replaced in the course of a day’s time with the right tools and fittings.

Winterizing

Winterizing should be a top priority in any home remodeling plan. Ideas for older homes can include simple cost effective methods such as:
Putting insulation in the attic and basement ceiling with a grade of at least R-19
Placing caulking around window frames to seal up cracks and open seams
Placing foam strips along the door frames and inner window frames
Sealing off the attic if not used often
Wrapping pipes in the basement from the water heater into the house will help keep the temperature constant at a lower heating need
Replacing storm windows and doors
Replacing window glass which is cracked or damaged
Sealing cracks in wall corners

Painting and Decorating

One of the most basic and simple remodeling ideas is the paint job. Painting a room can liven up any space. Painting cabinets is an easy kitchen remodeling idea. Simply changing fabrics of the furniture by using throw cushions or quilts always adds a warm comfortable touch to the room. Even a few pictures placed strategically can change room appeal.
