If you are thinking about re doing your bathroom and have never done a bathroom remodeling project before there are a couple things you will need to consider before you get started. The one thing you will need to be is completely honest with yourself because if you are not you will be digging yourself a hole which could be very difficult to get out of. There are some key decisions you will need to make before beginning your bathroom remodeling project and I will get into those as you read on.

The first thing you need to do before you do anything is come up with a budget. How much are willing to spend to get this bathroom done? Once you have the number you are going to want to lower it a bit so that you have head room just in case something goes wrong and you need extra money. It is very important that you have this cushion because almost every job I have ever done has gone over in one way or another.

Once you have budget in place the next thing you need to decide is whether or not you will use a bathroom remodel contractor. I recommend considering the help of one even though you may think that you know everything and can do it yourself. I have done bathrooms for years and I still have a buddy that I rely on to help me with all the plumbing. We work very well together as a team, and I would suggest considering bringing in a professional for areas of your bathroom remodeling project that you do not feel comfortable with.

Now that you have laid out who is going to do what you need to start figuring out what you are going to buy and pick out what you want. This is a very important first part of your bathroom remodeling project because the pieces will determine what other pieces to get and their size will determine what you can and can not fit in your bathroom. I would start with the tub as this is going to most likely be the most expensive and largest piece of your bathroom remodeling project. Pick one that you want and build your bathroom around that. Doing a bathroom remodeling project this way has led to the most positive results from what I have seen.
