Wednesday, December 31st, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedYou’re cleaning your house and everything’s going along smoothly. You’ve vacuumed, dusted, you’ve cleaned the kitchen, the living room, the dining room and even all of the bedrooms. The laundry’s done and even the cat and dog are bathed. Suddenly, you realize you forgot to clean the venetian blinds. Cleaning venetian blinds is very difficult and that’s why many times we forget to do it, or we do it only half way. Why is cleaning venetian blinds so difficult? There are several reasons. There are also several ways to go about cleaning venetian blinds that would make it so much easier.
Types
There are various types of venetian blinds. Most people have the plastic ones, which bend and break and these happen to be the hardest ones to clean. Aluminum venetian blinds are a little easier to clean as they are more sturdy and they’re not as fragile. No matter what type you have, however, you can clean your venetian blinds easily if you know what you’re doing. First, you need to know what you’re cleaning.
Why So Dirty?
Why is cleaning venetian blinds so difficult? Anytime anything is near a window, it seems to gather more dust than normal. Dusting may not take care of the problem, however. When you wave a duster over the blinds to try to clean them, this may bend them and the blinds can break or form white stress marks from where they bent a little too far. If you try a damp washcloth, the dust seems to clump together and it’s hard to get the dust when it’s near the edges of where the strings go through the slats. So, how do you clean these venetian blinds that are so difficult to clean when they’re covered with dust?
Cleaning Easily
The easiest way to clean venetian blinds is to do it slat by slat. Grip one end of the slat with your fingers and take a very lightly wetted washcloth along the slat, moving slowly from one end to the other. When it comes to the strings, rub the washcloth over these areas until the dust and dirt is gone. You will have to rinse the washcloth often so that you don’t get the venetian blinds dirtier as you clean them.
There you have it. Cleaning venetian blinds doesn’t have to be such a chore but you’ll have to know how to do it and you’ll have to make sure you are delicate and go slowly so that you don’t ruin or damage the blinds in any way.
